ATC Information for Pilots
available by running the MaldAir/EurOzone.com Service Pack Updater.
Is ATC available on this server?
Yes, ATC is available on this server. Do note that recognised ATCs operate on TeamSpeak 3 only. The stock FSX communications is buggy and laggy and, frankly, unusable, so we use TeamSpeak 3.
How do I find an ATC?
ATCs will be set up on TeamSpeak at THEIR chosen airport. They will have their TeamSpeak nickname set as:
ICAO - Position (Name) - eg.
Alan Dowty at Heathrow Tower will be set up as: EGLL - Tower (Alan)
Sid James at Sydney Ground will be set up as: YSSY - Ground (Sid)
Additionally, they will be listed on the website, on the TeamSpeak banner and on the FSX Chat Box providing they are using the MaldAir Group ATC Utility.
How do I contact ATC?
Using a microphone only on TeamSpeak please. ATCs can become very busy so won't have time to type and talk as they have essential paperwork to deal with as well.
What do I ask the ATC?
On first contact, state your intentions and current location. If you are using the MaldAir/EurOzone Pilot Utility (icon shown above) then just state your callsign and they will find your flightstrip.
Some basic examples follow for Male International in the Maldives (VRMM).
If on the ground:
Male Tower, [callsign] is on stand G33 request flight plan clearance to ICAO CODE at flight level IFR as filed.
If in the air and arriving:
Male Tower, [callsign] is 50 nautical miles southwest of your airport, requesting full stop landing.
Be aware that these are very BASIC examples. A more advanced script can be download by clicking HERE (.DOC)
This server prides itself on as few rules as possible, but the rules below MUST be followed if you and others are to make good use of the ATCs:
1. USE A MICROPHONE
2. DO NOT MOVE ON THE GROUND WITHOUT PERMISSION - EVER
3. ACKNOWLEDGE/READ BACK ANY INSTRUCTION GIVEN BY THE ATC
4. FOLLOW ANY INSTRUCTION GIVEN BY THE ATC UNLESS UNSAFE TO DO SO
5. DO NOT TALK/TRANSMIT OVER THE ATC
Why do you have these rules?
You are at a controlled airport, expecting to be controlled. You cannot BE controlled by an ATC unless you do those things listed above. In addition to this, the ATC will feel you are not taking any notice and remove you from the channel. We do not want to have to do that.
How are ATCs ranked?
ATCs are ranked based upon time in service.
You mentioned TeamSpeak - what is this and how do I get it?
TeamSpeak is a stable communications system used by the ATCs and Pilots on this server. You can get icons assigned to you when you achieve targets or buy things from the Virtual Shop etc. TeamSpeak can be downloaded from HERE. Once downloaded and installed, use the following link to connect: comms.maldair.com
One last rule: Please leave the cockpit as you would wish to find it. Other pilots need to fly these aircraft.
